Great Photos Make Great Socks

With cameras in our back pockets, we now have more photos than we know what to do with. We take photos of everything, our pets, friends, loved ones, vacations, graduations, weddings, and of course the selfie! We take so many photos that most of them are lost in old computer files, Facebook albums, and the cloud, never to be seen again.

So why not bring those great photos to life by printing them on something you can wear everyday? Send us your photos and sockprints can turn your pictures into a high-quality full-color print on any of our sock styles.

Design your own at sockprints, or email your pictures to us at contactus@sockprints.com and our design team will help create a pair of custom printed photo socks just for you.

In honor of Endangered Species Day we interrupt our regularly scheduled Pet-Photo-Friday post to highlight this beautiful big cat, the Amur Leopard, on our awesome custom photo socks.

A native to the Primorye and Jilin regions of southeast Russian and northeast China, the Amur Leopard was classified as critically endangered in 1996 due to poaching and habitat loss from agricultural and urban development. With help from the Amur Leopard and Tiger Alliance, the Phoenix Fund, and the Wildlife Conservation Society, the number of Amur Leopards has grown and today it is estimated that there are around 60 individuals living in the wild.

If you want to learn more about this beautiful animal or want to donate to help in the preservation of their species please visit http://www.altaconservation.org

Interested in your own pair of custom printed socks? Design your own at www.sockprints.com or send us an email (contactus@sockprints.com) and someone on our design team will help personalize a pair of socks just for you!

Pet Photo Friday - Consuela

It’s Friday and that means it’s time to introduce you to this week’s sockprints Pet of the Week! Say hello to Princess Consuela Banana Hammock, or just Consuela for short. This 5-year-old tortoise shell kitty was found hiding in a bush in the alley behind her owner’s house in college. Her owner told us that Consuela is “very talkative, very sweet and very odd.” Consuela’s owner made these custom printed pet photo socks as a Father's Day “Cat Dad Day” gift for her fiancĂ©.

If you want to see more of this cute kitty, Consuela and her brother Googles, you are in luck because they have their own Instagram page! Check them out @googsandsuela.

Want to wear your pets on your feet? It’s easy! Design your own custom socks at sockprints.com  or send us an email and we can help you create your very own pair of personalized socks!

Custom Printed Socks Featuring Etsy Artists

Sockprints has teamed up with some very talented Etsy artists to bring our customers a fun new option when purchasing custom printed socks!  Sold in sets of three at SockprintsOnEtsy, each pair of socks displays a beautiful design or photograph from these select artists.

We’re pleased to introduce you to them...

Meet Kelly Walston of Paint, Fabric and Whimsy.  As a native Californian her work is influenced by Mexican Folk Art.  She incorporates highly detailed and colorful Oaxacan style to her artwork.  Kelly is also inspired by her experience working with children’s museums and with her own daughters.  For more information about Kelly’s art, take a peek at her Etsy shop, PaintFabricWhimsy.

We love the bright vibrant colors of her artwork and how beautiful and detailed they print on our white socks!

Stephanie Girard’s Etsy shop, Lark Road Rhymes features made to order poems and messages.  When we saw how she personalizes each poem and how great her designs look on photo paper, we knew they’d be a hit for our custom socks too.  Stephanie’s unique, personalized designs make great engagement and wedding gifts.  She also has a full selection of children’s poems for nurseries, baptism, and youth sports.

We’re happy to announce that we’re adding youth size socks to our product line up later this summer and we look forward to working with Stephanie to bring some children’s designs to our socks too!

Meet Kimberley from Tapadh Leibh Cards!  She’s a teacher with a passion for working with youth as well as the performing and fine arts.  Her art is inspired by her family, friends, humor and her travels.  Tapadh Leibh means, thank you, in Gaelic and pays homage to her Scottish heritage.

The photograph shown on this pair of socks was taken in Cowichan Bay, British Columbia Canada and is titled, “Natural Color.”  Simply beautiful!

If you’re not familiar with Etsy.com, it’s a fantastic, online marketplace filled with art, handmade crafts and vintage items.  You’ll find all sorts of talented artists and inspiring shops selling their items on Etsy.  For more information about these artists, their work and to check out our socks, explore - SockprintsOnEtsy, PaintFabricWhimsy, LarkRoadRhymes, TapadhLeibhCards

New - Facebook and Instagram Photo Tool at Sockprints!

We are excited to announce that we just added a really cool feature to sockprints.com!  Our customers can now use photos from their Facebook and Instagram accounts to design and personalize their own custom socks!

The process is as simple as adding an image from our design gallery, but instead of selecting artwork from our store, you click on the Facebook or Instagram link and icon.  You will need to login to your account and then your photos will appear!  Click on a photo for starters and then use one of the other design tools to create your socks.  You can add a filter, a boarder, and some text too.  The possibilities are endless!

This new feature is a great addition for customers to use when creating personalized socks.  Many customers use their personal photos and having quick access to them via Facebook and Instagram will enhance their sock designing experience.

We were so excited with the new improvement to our online design tool that we had to create some socks using our own Facebook and Instagram photos.

My son and I are LA Kings fans and we posted
this picture for our friends on Facebook
I'm guilty of taking pictures of my
spoiled cat and posting them on Instagram!

We hope you will take advantage of this new addition to sockprints and have fun making your own personalized sockprints!

5 Tips for Creating Phenomenal Photo Socks!

1.  Use clear and crisp photos. A blurry photo on paper or on your computer screen will also print that way on socks.  Remember that we’re printing on a soft surface so some variation will apply.

2.  Avoid dark photos and photos with dark shadows.  Some of the best photos we’ve printed on socks are those with contrasting colors.  Here’s a pet photo we printed on some crew socks.  Notice how the dog stands out from the blue ocean background.

3.  Crop your photos to accentuate the image.  Cropping your photos allows you to eliminate things in the background that can distract your eye from the main feature of the image.  Also remember that the print area on our no-show and crew socks is 3.25” x 4”, and 3.25” x 5.5” on our sporty knee highs.

4.  Use Photoshop or other programs to enhance your image.  If you don’t have a program on your computer, try a website like www.picmonkey.com.  You can crop, brighten, and make other edits too.

5.  Be creative!  Once you’ve uploaded your photo using the sockprints design too, you can add a caption, title, border or filter to your photos.  Try different fonts and experiment with assorted features that allow you to make your custom socks one-of-a kind!

Prevent Cruelty to Animals

April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals month and based on the number of pet photos we receive from our customers to print on our socks we know how much love is out there for animals

We love our pets too and some of the first custom socks we printed were of our kitten shortly after he was adopted from a Los Angeles shelter.  My son was the first to spot our cat, Cameron, on my son’s 9th birthday on a visit to the shelter.  When we tried to take him home that day we were told that he wasn’t available for adoption for 3 more days.  We waited for what seemed like ages and went to the shelter first thing Saturday morning and found the same kitten right where we had left him, obviously waiting for us!  But, when we got there we didn’t know that we weren’t the first to arrive that morning.  When we pointed out the kitten we wanted to adopt, we were told by the staff that a woman had already gotten to the shelter a couple minutes before we did and she wanted our cat too.

My heart sank as I watched my son getting choked up at the thought of not bringing home that kitten.  The other woman who went to check out some other cats before making her final decision came back and saw the dilemma unfolding.  We were told that since two people wanted the same kitten that they could hold an auction on the spot and we could bid against each other.  I could not and would not leave that shelter without that kitten!  I felt my own mama claws coming out and I was going to do whatever I had to do to get that cat!  Fortunately for us, this very understanding woman must have seen how my son’s heart was set on our cat and she said we could have him.

I’ll never forget the comments the woman made about how lucky two cats would be to have found loving homes that day.  She was right.  While we were both focused on rescuing that one special kitten, two were saved.

Did you rescue your pet?  If so, share your story and enter our April sockprints giveaway.  Two lucky winners will receive one set of 3 custom printed no-show or crew socks.  Perfect for creating your own pet photo socks!  Enter below by telling us in a sentence or two how you rescued your pet.  Winners will be selected on April 30, 2012 at 10:00pm pst.

While you’re at it, check out organizations like ASPCA and The Humane Society and support Prevention of Cruelty to Animals during the month of April (and always)!

PROM?

We have another clever sockprints customer to thank for taking us back down high school memory lane and bringing us this custom sock idea… Prom invitation socks!

Prom Invitations - We have a great time coming up with inventive things  to print on our socks and we’re always thrilled to see new custom sock ideas from our customers.  One customer came up with a fun way to ask his date to the prom.   He created a set of 3 no show socks.  The first pair popped the question and the second and third pairs could be worn to show her response.  Very clever!

Prom Party Favors - If you’re on the prom planning committee, how about offering attendees custom socks to commemorate the event?  Tired feet will love to slip off high heels and slide into the comfort of a pair of sockprints on the dance floor.  We have sock styles for girls and boys and your high school or prom logo will look great on them.

After Prom Remembrance –When the party is over and you’ve looked at your prom pictures, upload a few to sockprints and create some prom memory socks.  Order a set for your date to say, “Thank you” or make some for yourself to remember that occasion.

Retro Prom - The sample socks below are from the most recent prom I went to a few years ago.  That’s right, a few years ago.  Not 20-something years ago like a few of my friends might think I’m mentioning.  Some family members hosted a retro-prom party one New Year’s eve and we had a blast dressing up in our retro prom attire, taking pictures and voting for prom king and queen.  I’m pleased to say that although the voting is still disputed amongst family, my husband and I won the prom king and queen contest!

If we had sockprints back at our retro prom party I would have printed a pair of socks for each couple with their prom picture on it for them.  We still get a good laugh every time we see these photos and having them on personalized socks would be a great way to reminisce about that night.

We’re running a special PROMotion this spring for 25% off your custom sock order.  Enter PROM12 at checkout to receive your discount.
