The 13-year-old Boy Sockprints Test

At sockprints we are constantly working to improve our products by testing and researching new markets, conducting test prints, offering new styles and more.  Our latest successful test results came from a group of 13 year old boys at a birthday party.

Our community has a new indoor trampoline park and my son couldn’t wait to have his 13^th birthday party there with his friends.  Not knowing much about the venue I called ahead and asked what the participants wore on their feet to jump.  I was told that they wear shoes that they get there and that the boys need to wear socks.  And just like that, I knew what the party favor was going to be!  Yep, how could a sockprints mom give any other party favor?

My son has seen all sorts of socks that we’ve printed and when I asked him how he felt about giving his friends some sockprints, his only concern was that we didn’t print some girly, pink, or bright colors or designs on the socks.  We came up with these socks to give the boys and the feedback I’ve gotten from some of the moms was that they are a hit!  One of the toughest crowds to please gave us the thumbs up!

Here’s a conversation on the car ride home one of the moms shared with me via email putting a BIG smile on my face!    

Luke:  WOW, I love these!  No one ever made me socks before! I wish my mom could make socks!  I love these!  Do you think she can put a logo on it?  These are great! I wish my mom could make socks!

Jonny:  Dude, Hayley can put anything on a sock.

Luke:  Jonny, are you gonna wear your socks to school tomorrow?  I think I'm gonna wear my socks, I love these socks!

Jonny:  Dude, did you feel how soft they are? You can put them on your hands and use them as mittens, except they don't have the thumby things.

Luke:  If I can tie them together I can wear it as a sweat band for soccer...

Jonny:  EWWW....

The Big Debate

 

Decision 2012… what custom socks should you purchase? 

 

THE CANDIDATES

No shows, crew socks, sport crews, or knee highs.  Pick your style to suit your needs.  Our no show socks are printed on the top of the foot and our regular crew and sport crew socks are printed on the outside ankle area.  If you need a larger print area, our knee high socks come in 3 different styles (basic knee high, sporty knee high, and sporty knee high with stripes).  The print area for no show and crew socks is 3.25” x 4”, 3.25” x 5.5” for sporty knee highs, and 3.25” x 8” for the basic knee high. 

THE ISSUES 

Custom printed, embroidery or woven in sock designs? - Unlike embroidery or woven in sock designs, custom printed sockprints can produce highly detailed images.  Our printer prints in high resolution and can produce over 16 million colors.  We like to think of our socks as a blank canvas with the ability to print incredible detail in a lot of colors, basically eliminating the limitations of knitting, or embroidering on the socks. 

 

Design choice? -  Photographs, text, logos, graphic designs and all be uploaded using our design tool to create your own custom socks.  If you need assistance with design ideas, look to our image gallery featuring several different themes.  We’re also happy to help you, just send us an email!

Custom socks? -  Designs that can be printed on a t-shirt can now be printed on a pair of socks (brought down to scale, of course).  Sockprints supplies unique products that are simple and fresh, as well as practical and fun.

So the whole “less is more” theme from the last Happy Sole post is still my motto this year, but I have to say that sometimes people just NEED MORE!  Regardless of what it may be (chocolate instantly comes to mind), there are times when a few just won’t do.  Here are some examples of this when it comes to custom socks:

Less is More

While having a nice conversation with a couple of friends last fall, one of them brought up the topic of “less is more.”  The thought lingered with me as 2011 was winding down and I found myself revisiting it while shopping for gifts, packing for our holiday away with family, and it was a good reminder at Christmas parties as the dessert plates came my way!

With a week of 2012 under my belt now I’m still hearing that “less is more” voice inside my head, and instead of writing a long list of goals for this year I think I’ll just stick with this approach for the time being.

The Intentional Mis-Match

I’m the first to admit that before sockprints, there were times when my sock drawer was bare and I had to make a run to the dryer to grab two socks hoping to make a matching pair before I ran out the door.  You’ve been in the same situation before too, right?

I figured as long as they were the same color and a similar style I should be ok and I just hoped that no one would notice.  Now, thanks to sockprints and a fun new twist in creating custom socks, I’m intentionally mis-matching socks and hoping that people will take notice! 

Yep, there are mis-matched socks out there you’ve never even thought of creating before.  I mean, why would people want socks that don’t match?  Because it’s fun, it’s cool, and now it’s possible!  Here are some images to inspire your custom mis-matched socks:

One of my favorite college football teams stomped all over our rival team last weekend and I created this pair to remind me of the sweet smell of victory!

Creating your own, personalized mis-matched socks is easy to do with the sockprints online design tool.  Using our knee highs as an example, simply create one pair of socks with one design and then the other pair of socks with another design.  Our knee highs are sold in sets of two so it’s easy to get two customs pairs of mis-matched socks at one time.

Back to School

It's already the end of August, and we all know that means Back to School…

Shopping for books, school supplies, backpacks, lunch boxes, clothes, shoes and socks (of course) and more!  Completing forms, forms and more forms (registration, emergency contacts, lunch orders, PTA memberships – all in triplicate!)  Getting kids registered for fall sports and after school programs.  Figuring out carpool and so much more!  We already miss summer and it's not even over yet!

Now that I'm a pet owner...

Animal lovers are known to do some pretty crazy things in the name of love for their pets, and never in a million years would I have believed that I would join the ranks! My 10-year-old son and I rescued a kitten at a local shelter last October and I have to say that I’ve completely fallen in love with our newest, furry, family member. I’ve officially become a proud pet owner and have to confess that while experimenting with some designs on socks, I printed our cat’s picture on a pair of no show socks! I’m still a shy about printing and wearing a “I ♥ Cameron” plus his photo on a t-shirt, but hey can’t a girl have some fun with some custom printed socks? Crazy or not, I love looking down at my feet and seeing Cameron’s photo. I just smile when I see that little guy…

A Camping We Will Go

While brainstorming some design ideas for custom printed socks, one of the first groups we thought of were personalized socks for summer camp!

Summer camps are something almost every kid looks forward to.  The choices are plentiful and it would be hard not to find something of interest for little Ashley or Johnny.  In Canada they actually have a summer camp for video game players!  We discovered a summer culinary camp in San Diego we want to attend!  Wish we had all these choices when we were growing up.
