Care Package Club

Care Package Club

A good friend told me about how she gets together about once a month with a group of moms to put together care packages to send to their daughters while they are away at college.  Thinking what a great idea this was, I invited some friends to do the same thing.  It’s a fun way to keep in touch with friends and send our girls some love in the mail!

There are about 8 of us who have committed to taking turns throughout the academic year to host the monthly event and set the theme for the care packages.  I hosted the first gathering and our theme was, “There’s no place like home” or “home town favorites.”   Our group’s guidelines are simple; each mom purchases 8 of the same item (one for each college girl) and brings them to our monthly meeting.  We assembled 8 flat rate USPS shipping boxes and we put one of our items in each box.  Each college girl gets the same care package shipped to her unless her mom adds a little something extra for her.

We didn’t tell our daughters that we were doing this and we all shipped our packages at the same time.  The girls were surprised and so appreciative to receive their care packages.  We had a blast reporting to one another how excited our daughters were when they received them!

Since I’m aka Sock Lady, the care packages wouldn’t have been complete without a custom printed pair of socks for each girl.  I created a simple word art collage to remind them of HOME and personalized them with each girl’s name.   They are adorable and I just might have to make some for the moms next!

YaYa's take sockprints to Washington DC!

My husband's aunts recently took a trip to Washington DC and brought along some custom socks from sockprints.
They surprised us when they got home with some great photos of the sights they visited at our nation's capitol. From the pictures they sent, it looks like they had a great time - and so did our socks!

Take a peek at this slide show:

Send us photos of your custom printed socks and we'll share them with our fans.  We love to see where sockprints land all over the world!

Thank you YaYa's for taking sockprints to Washington DC and for sharing your pictures with us!

30 Days of Gratitude

After reading a friend’s Facebook post today, I’m inspired to take her challenge of acknowledging one thing that I’m grateful for each day during the month of November.  I probably won’t post my gratitude list on Facebook every day, but I am going to take a minute away from the busy hustle and bustle to focus on one thing in my life in which I am grateful, for the next 30 days.

Hmmm… Maybe I’ll create a few pairs of custom gratitude socks to remind me to take a moment and appreciate.  I also think some gratitude socks would make nice thank you gifts!  I think I’m on to something!

Day 1 – Family.  This one can (and I’m sure will) be broken down into several nuggets of gratitude throughout the month as I’m fortunate to have great family.  There’s mom, dad, kids, etc. and each one deserves a day of acknowledgement this month.  Here’s’ an old black and white photo of my parents on a pair of crew socks.  Maybe I’ll send his and hers socks to my folks this month as a little way to let them know that I’m thinking about them.  They’re awesome parents and grandparents, and I’m sure I could let them know how much I love them more often than I do.

Speaking of family and gratitude, I’m reminded of a time when my nephew’s pre-school teacher asked him what he was grateful for during a Thanksgiving program.  He responded confidently that he was grateful for chickens!  We busted up with laughter in the audience and wondered where on earth he came up with that one!  Perhaps he thought chickens were neglected since the buzz all month was about turkeys?  Who knows, but this pair of socks is inspired by my nephew Carter!

Day 2 – Not to jump ahead a day here, but I’m feeling pretty grateful for the opportunity to create custom socks for happy soles at Sockprints with my business partner and fellow mompreneur.  Our vision started on the sidelines of a soccer field while watching our daughters play.  We’ve gone from “soccer moms” to “sock-er moms!”

We’re constantly amazed and amused by the fun custom sock creations our customers produce on our online store and we’re feeling pretty fortunate to get to do what we do.  If you haven’t had a chance to create your own custom socks at Sockprints or if you’re a big fan of ours and a repeat customer, we’re offering a 25% discount code this month to show our gratitude!  Enter GRATEFUL at checkout to receive your discount.

What’s on your gratitude list?  Share what you’re grateful for and enter our November Sockprints giveaway.  Two lucky winners will receive one set of 3 custom printed no-show or crew socks!  Enter below by telling us one thing on your gratitude list.  Winners will be selected on November 30, 2011 at 9pm pst.

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

It’s September 22nd and I’ve recently learned that it’s Dear Diary Day. I figure a good way to pay tribute to this occasion is to write a new blog entry for The Happy Sole. I mean, isn’t a blog a diary anyway?

As I started to do some limited online research on this topic I found that indeed, blogs are very similar to diaries and journals. So what are the differences? Well I’m not an expert, but to me a diary is a private place to write your secret hopes, desires and experiences guarded under lock and key. A journal on the other hand is a more public place to record events and daily happenings, and a blog is typically an online venue to share thoughts on specific topics.

Sockprints’ blog, The Happy Sole, was created to share our thoughts on socks and life. Looking back at our early blog entries is like going back and reading my diary. It’s fun to go back and look at what we’ve done so far and then think about where we plan to go.

Until next time diary…
