Red, White and Blue

Summer’s here and the 4th of July is right around the corner! Independence Day conjures up images of BBQ’s with friends and family, the American flag, and the grand finale of the night… fireworks!

With the colors red, white and blue out in full force this time of year, I’ve been wondering about the meaning of those colors on the American flag. Thanks to google,I did a quick search and found a great website dedicated to the flag of the United States of America. It turns out that the colors of the flag did not have specific meanings when it was adopted in 1777, but the colors in the Great Seal did have meanings. The website shares a quote by Charles Thompson, Secretary of the Continental Congress, about the colors of the seal and their meanings, "The colors of the pales (the vertical stripes) are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valour, and Blue, the color of the Chief (the broad band above the stripes) signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice."

Inspired by the Stars and Stripes, here are some fun new 4th of July ideas for custom printed socks.
